A Prawn Reborn

These were done in my drawing class at uni. It was our first class and we werent really told where we were going with this particular lesson, we were just handed a plate with a dead prawn on it... (that's a shrimp for those in the US the stuff we throw on barbies) and some ink and paper and told to draw it, paying attention to its structure.

We did this three times and each time added some new layer, bringing out the structure and character of the prawn more. The first one is on the bottom here, and is just plain black ink. The next level was the addition of coloured ink, and then finally we went all out with a collage.

I saw the completed product as though I was adding life to the prawn in successive stages until it was "resurrected" as such, going from kind of mimicking its deathliness to making it vibrant and full of life.

It would seem this deviation has come at a very convenient time, what with the whole theme of resurrection and seafood That is just a coincidence. But a Happy Easter to everyone anyway!
