Description

Update 18th Jan 2020

I've uploaded a brand new, totally crisp version of this artwork. The old upload was muddy and colours were quite off ...and it bugged me for 11 years. Lol. This scan much more accurately reflects the real life painting.

Well now that a decade has passed, I've realised that this work holds a particularly special place amongst everything I've done. I remember it as a real breakthrough point. Both in terms of perseverance and an unwillingness to settle for filler patterns, but also it was the first time I felt like I'd really found my style. A curse in some ways. Why did my style have to involve so much effort?!

Much of the weird 'world' I've worked in can be traced back to this painting, and it's one of my few older works that I still really like today and am most proud of :)

Yes. At long last. The idea is that the creature on the bottom is using all the other creatures who are stored within each other to get the butterfly-esque insects at the top. So even though it has no arms, no legs and is basically an almost-inanimate blob, it has its ways...

The medium is watercolour on watercolour paper, size A4.

This was quite an epic undertaking, even if it may not entirely show. I had to get this out of my system before I started anything else. I really pushed myself trying to make everything as perfect as I could, attempting fresh patterns and unconventional colour mixes etc. I pretty much did one small section a day, so that I would return with a completely new state of mind for the next bit. I really hope you like it!
