Pig and Pepper

Description

Pig & Pepper. I want my ampersand dammit.

Medium: Watercolour
Size: painted on 3 separate A4s and digitally composed together.

This is a book illustration that would equally function as the chapter title for Chapter VI in "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland": Pig & Pepper. Another experimental approach to typography, heavily integrating type and illustration so that it almost needs to be discovered.

This uses a more semiotic and structured approach when compared to "Advice From A Caterpillar", which is closer to a traditional illustration. These two "Alice" works were one part of a larger study in illustrative typography for my Masters. I wish there was an "illustrative typography" category, there really should be. It's either "Calligraphy" or "Typographic Stencil Art" (wtf...), that's it in the category of traditional typography. Laaame.

The word "PIG" embedded in the pig nose illustration, or the word "PEPPER" spread across the pepper shakers can each be literally read or overlooked, and the result is much the same. The "&" references the Duchess.

This one was really fun to do :bounce: Hope you like it too

Hee, I knew I wasn't just kiddin' myself about relating things to Alice In Wonderland when I saw a pig snout and pepper. c: It's subconscious now.

It's a very nice piece, has very good color. I almost thought it was a character in the beginning. A character with just pig ears and a snout for a face, and pepper shakers for legs. Brilliantttt. Great detail, too~
