Third typography poster for uni. This one illustrates the type for an extract of lyrics from the Silverchair song "Across the Night".
The line is about being unable to sleep because of the arresting luminosity and power of the moon, and the song in general is about falling in love with the night and the escapism and freedom it provides, but also the associated frustration that comes with insomnia. The song's elaborately orchestrated, and in a way that harks back to a bygone era.
So I tried to encapsulate all this imagery in my illustration. I took inspiration from the video
which has an old silent-era film look, with flickers and areas of obvious brightness and contrast, and I looked specifically at George Milies' "A Trip to the Moon" (the one where the rocket lands in the moon's eye, brutal lol).
Anyway, I could keep working on it forever (really) so I just had to stop. Could have been better but I guess its imperfections lend themselves to the handmade look.
Hope you like!

Did you ever do bubble writing as a kid? Or block letters and then colour them in? That's where it all started for me, and really it's not that different! Just...a continuation and refinement
