Garden of Overthought by Simanion Garden of Overthought by Simanion
Sometimes really wonderful things are growing around you but youre not entirely sure what they are. You can either be impulsive, go with your heart and embrace them - or you can be a static overthinking stupid baby tree (see above), thinking too much about everything and totally wreck something before it has properly begun to grow, and be left feeling incomplete.

Eww, feelings.

Done to a soundtrack of The Panics' "Dont Fight It" - the title is written in there somewhere :D

This was started about two months ago and things have changed since then, so it's pretty irrelevant now... But it brings it back whenever I look at it, and I only recently had the motivation to cut him out, create a background and stick him on it.

It's a bit more overtly personal than most of my other stuff, hence the old cliched love hearts ;) Guess I wanted to show a bit more as opposed to hiding completely behind abstraction this time. Man those dots on the top and side took forever..

well shit!... after seeing this & reading your comment above, i was convinced for some reason that you were female (this is neither a compliment nor an insult. it goes to prove i 'm much more presumptuous that i'd like to give myself credit for...)

on the whole: great, amazing art! my eyes & mind are thankful for it.

Yeah..hopefully it signifies that you engaged with it? Lol. Drawing love hearts is probably perceived as more feminine. And I've often wondered what it is exactly about my art that makes it seem feminine. I think that it's usually very fine + lots of curves/swirls. According to many online and thus irrefutable tests I have a more "female" brain. But I'm glad you like this anyway!

i bloody hate stereotypes, & so i've always hated the idea of drawing "love hearts" (being female & all).
only recently i got over it & started to use them (mostly ironicaly or in contrast with sth). they are symbols after all as much as anything else... [link] [link]
but now that you mentioned that about your brain, i might look into it myself...
i wont be very suprised if mine is a more "male" one (clues: handwriting, behavior & communication skills, bisexuality, communicating better with boys usually, slightly prone to violence, occasionaly wishing i could somehow change back & forth between sexes, etc)

Now that would be a mighty trick and yeild many insights. I'm sure it would make the world a much more understanding place too if everyone was a sex-shifter. Most of my brain test things were based on empathy tasks, where you'd read a bunch of facial expressions - which I was good at and apparently females are better at than males.

...now i am reminded of a short story by neil gaiman (which, if you're unaware & interested, can be found in the anthology 'smoke & mirrors' amongst other places)
called 'changes'.
in this story, a cure for cancer is discovered but with the inevitable side effect of a sex change, practicaly overnight! the wondous pills imediately find a place in the black market & are used recreationaly... too bad its only fiction.

I've heard of that one! My friend is a huge short story buff and has recounted many to me. I read vicariously through him. But do they change completely or is it only their genitalia? Lol.

they change completely & thoroughly, relatively painlessly in the course of several hours & in their sleep if they so choose. i dont think it was specified if their new facial features still resembled their former ones. sometimes after the change they notice a scar or a mole or a birthmark has disapeared. some of them even cease to age, or age very slowly.
they can change back & forth as often as they like with no other complications.

i was extremely obsessed with this for a long time (not as "publically" as you with the infamous manion though) until i found a new & more "realistic" object of obsession, my choice on which i would deeply regret if i wasnt such a masochist...

Ahaha, yes my Manion obsession runs deep and will probably pass on to my children.

Are you trying to tell me you're a cutter? (If you actually are, I'm sorry for being trivial) Hey I'm a sadist, you're a masochist..Eh? Eh? Lol. PS. I'm not really a sadist, just to Manion.

I think this is incredible. It is an inspiration to my own style, which has developed a lot. Your combination of shapes, textures and concepts is just brilliant. It may be very abstract, but it has a unity that I hope to one day achieve.

I think the closest I have gotten is this:
