Artist's Comments

Well..relatively the year is still new :D After doing a piece of great calculation, I had a real craving to do something completely abstract and spontaneous.

I chose to undertake it as part of "Project Disability" by :icon1pen: where you do an artwork with your "other" hand or blindfolded. I did this piece with my left hand.

This is the first time I've ever used oils and they were interesting to work with. Practicing briefly, I found it extremely hard to get what I wanted from them (neat, precise detail was nearly impossible), so to me they suited abstraction perfectly

I chose this title because when I'd finished, some parts seemed to have a slightly festive vibe, and it contains alot of opposites - what had been and what could be.

From [link]

"A challenge to you, all of you, to do artwork with your other hand, blindfolded, or both. For a moment, try to consider what it would be like to suffer a catastrophic injury (as it might be to an artist) to lose either your vision or use of your preferred limb. You can even go further and imagine the loss of both limbs and try creating art with your teeth or your toes. I'm sure you will find as I did that: we evolve, we adapt and in a strange way, as frustrating and discouraging as it is, it helps us to come to terms with loss and the surprising font of ability and strength that comes from coping with that loss.

I hope all of you will participate. Any offers of stamps, news, features, word-of-mouth etc. Would be fantastic"

------------------------------------------------------

So give it a go!
Anyway, hope you like this.

very cool! Funny enough I do this sometimes when I am bored...write with my left hand or draw. I have one on my page done with my lefty....called "left handed masterbation". Ha. How did you like it? I found it kind of freeing, I am usually very hypercritical of my own work...this helped a little because of the lack of control I have with my left. Your piece is beautiful, I love the color and texture. It has a wonderfully fluid feel to it.

Oil paints are evil, period.

Haha, I shall conquer them dammit!

Thankyou! You know it was quite liberating but also humbling. I guess if I had tried to do something of my regular style it would have been more a case of "I want to violently murder somebody" frustration lol.

Trust me, it's futile. I've been beating my head against them for two weeks now.

WOW :jawdrop:
Something about this just says wow!
The colours, abstractness, it all combines.
This is really good! You should hang that in your room!
But i think it also describes what type of year we have ahead of us...

And that fact you did it with your non-preferred hand, that's even cooler!

My left hand can't even do anything as amazing as this, and don't even get me started on my stupid right hand.

Mine is bigger.
:iconspritaek:
I write with my right hand and Draw with my left. Heh heh heh...

Whaddaya mean that's not a kazoo?!

I love the rich, contrating colors the piece! It just seems like it must have been fun to paint. Nice left hand work too. I have always had this horrid fear of ever losing my hands. I just don't think I would want to survive if I couldn't create.

Wow, thank you so much for participating and helping to spread the word. I love this deviation. The colors are so very vibrant and there's even a bit of motion.
